RWM 2011 marks second year of carbon neutral exhibiting for Qurius UK
22nd August 2011 – After successfully offsetting its carbon emissions from the Recycling and Waste Management (RWM) Exhibition in 2010, Qurius UK has once again committed to make its participation at the 2011 show carbon neutral. Qurius’ carbon footprint for RWM will be measured using the Carbon Neutral Group event template and any required carbon emissions will be offset under the Voluntary Carbon Standard.
Qurius is a global software provider, delivering market-oriented solutions based on Microsoft-based business and IT solutions. Mark Cockings, Managing Director of Qurius UK, comments, “Qurius has publicly declared its ambition to be 100% sustainable by 2014 and the decision to remain carbon neutral at external events is a key component of this objective. It is certainly going to be a challenge, but we believe it is important to demonstrate our commitment to ethical business and efficient operations. At RWM, where the environment is a key issue anyway, we expect to see a lot of interest in the measures we are taking to ensure minimal energy usage and carbon off-setting.”
He continues, “We believe our environmental commitments complement our core business objectives, which are to provide world-class business management software solutions for specified markets, including recycling and waste management. The enwis) solution is the most widely implemented business software within the RWM industry and our commitment to achieving full sustainability fits perfectly with the needs and expectations of this important market.”
To fulfil its carbon offset strategy, Qurius is only purchasing what it needs to attend the show from verified projects that genuinely create emissions reductions. All emissions generated by Qurius from the event will be offset by the purchase of an equivalent number of carbon offsets through The Climate Neutral Group using Voluntary Carbon Units.
To keep these offsets to a minimum, Qurius is imposing the following activities for the event:
-
Travel – Employees, guests and contractors of Qurius travelling to the event will use public transport or, if this is impractical, share cars. All travel will be recorded for offsetting.
-
Paperless –There will be no physical information packs on the Qurius stand. All information will be provided in electronic format by email or direct transfer via Bluetooth.
-
Exhibition Stand –The stand has been manufactured from recycled, bio-degradable material and designed so that it can be re-used or recycled.
-
Pre-marketing – all pre- marketing for the event has been done electronically or over the telephone
-
Energy – The stand will have a minimum of IT and other electrical equipment. It will also use low energy lighting in order to minimise power consumption.
-
IT Equipment – Qurius policy is to use equipment with the EPEAT Gold Standard wherever practical.
-
Re-cycle – Qurius will dispose of all waste using on site NEC recycling facilities – nothing will go to landfill.
The Climate Neutral Group has been assisting companies for more than seven years in moving towards climate neutrality and providing advice on climate neutral services and products.
Currently the organisation works for more than 500 organisations, including PricewaterhouseCoopers, ING and TNT. Its event template measures all fuel usage in getting to and from the event, power used at the event, physical materials consumption and anything else that staff or visitors consume on the stand.
In addition to offsetting its carbon usage, Qurius is promising to plant a tree for every business card left on the stand by visitors.
